PIONEERING healthcare provider Ludlow Street Healthcare Group marked the expansion of its specialist community care provision with a celebratory launch of three new homes in Cardiff and Newport under its Ocean Community Services(OCS) banner.

With a focus on providing services for individuals with mental health, learning disability or acquired brain injury needs, OCS is currently providing care to service users with complex needs at group homes across South Wales.

The social care team is comprised of highly experienced professionals, committed to improving the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable adults – in particular those who may not have achieved their fullest potential for independence and recovery in the past.

A ‘step down’ service from the more intensive provision available in the Group’s larger hospital units, OCS provides rehabilitation and support within small group homes, situated in areas within which positive integration in local communities is actively encouraged.

Speaking about this latest development in the company’s extensive portfolio of services Christine Lovell, Clinical Development Director said:

“Our clinical care team is highly dedicated, comprising of individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds with specialist expertise in psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy and nursing – all of whom are committed to providing a full support structure within a more ‘normalised’ environment than that associated with more traditional models.

“We firmly believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their lives, have a sense of independence and develop the confidence that will ultimately help them to create opportunities for themselves.”

At Ocean Community Services all service users lead a full and active life with work, education and leisure opportunities and their home environment within OCS is positive.

The Office for National Statistics states one in four people will experience some form of mental health related problem this year and Chris Lovell said OCS was determined to play its role in helping to educate people about mental health issues and destigmatise the service and the service users.

“We’re keen to play our part in breaking down the stigma and removing barriers that are preventing people from understanding that there is life beyond mental illness.

“It is an exciting time for the Company as we expand and develop our services to continue to meet the needs of our clients and ultimately, raise the standards that are expected in the operational delivery of health and social care.”
